Installing RealPlayer on a Macintosh Download Software

1. To download the RealPlayer installer click here. As of February 2001, the latest version of the RealPlayer was version 8. Unless you are an audiophile or videophile, avoid purchasing RealPlayer Plus, and download the free RealPlayer 8 Basic. The basic functionality of the two pieces of software is practically identical.

2. The next window will ask for personal information, your connection speed, language, and operating system. Also, note that number five is checked by default and will cause you to receive e-mail from Real Network. Be sure you read everything carefully and leave number five checked or uncheck it depending on if you want to receive email updates from RealPlayer or not. When you have filled this in you may then click on the "download RealPlayer" button.

3. In the next window follow the download and installation instructions which ask you to choose a location near you in order to begin downloading. Once you have chosen a location, read to the bottom of the page for further instructions and important information about installation. Then, when the download is complete double-click on the RealPlayer installer on your desktop to begin installation.

4. Once the program is installed, RealPlayer will ask you to personalize your RealPlayer. It is up to your discretion how much information you fill in; however, you must proceed through the personalization or the program will not be configured properly.

5. After you leave the first window, RealPlayer will ask for your connection speed, and then give you a window that will allow you to choose the channels you want readily available. The next window asks you if you would like to receive RealPlayer flashes. You may read more about this feature by clicking on "tell me more," which will open a browser window with information about RealPlayer flashes. Once you have read through the information return to the RealPlayer personalization window and continue through the windows. There are several more windows that ask you to chose special features. Carefully read the choices you are given and continue until you are given the choice to finish. Once you press finish, you are ready to use RealPlayer to stream your media.
